Rovaniemi

Riding at night through silent forest is a different proposition from doing it in daylight, and the aurora, when it appears, arrives over the top of that. Arctic GM runs this with small groups, quieter routes away from the main tourist traffic, and premium equipment. The company is family run, with roots in Lapland going back to the 1600s. The evening starts with pickup and a transfer to a private base. After the instructions, the group sets off two guests per snowmobile, with a driver change partway so both get to ride. The route covers roughly 2 hours of driving through forest and open Arctic ground, well away from any city light. Stops are made to look around and check the sky. Hot drinks and light snacks follow the ride.

  1. Rovaniemi

Pickup from your accommodation in Rovaniemi and a transfer in a modern heated vehicle to Arctic GM's private snowmobile base, in a quiet forest area away from the busy tourist routes. On arrival you are given thermal overalls, a helmet and everything else the night requires, and the guide runs through the safety instructions and how the snowmobiles work. The guided ride covers about 2 hours through snow covered forest and open Arctic terrain on private land. Snowmobiles are shared between two guests, with a driver change partway through so both people get to drive. Stops happen at chosen spots to look around, take photographs and check the sky when conditions allow. Back at base there are hot drinks and light snacks before the transfer to Rovaniemi.
