Aurora Chase from Tromso with Full Frame Cameras and Photos
The aurora is never the same twice, which is why people who have seen it once go out again. This chase heads for the best viewing spots around Tromsø, among mountains and fjords well away from the city and its lights. Through the evening the guides stay in contact with other experienced guides for weather updates, and they follow three separate forecasts before deciding where to go. Reading three forecasts against each other is how you spot the one that is wrong. Two full frame cameras come along, for portraits of you with the aurora behind you and for photographs of the lights and the country they are over. On nights with strong activity there is timelapse and video too. Warm clothing is available, and the guides give camera advice, which in Arctic cold is as much about handling the gear as about the settings.

Tromso
Ten years of aurora chasing behind this one. The guide will drive up to 250 kilometres from Tromsø to find the best weather. Once there, the work is portraits of you with the aurora, scenic photographs, and timelapse or video when conditions allow. Everything is shared with you the next day. Every tour includes winter clothing, a campfire, tripod chairs with small reindeer skins, hot drinks with muffins and fruit, and camera tripods for DSLR and mirrorless bodies. The minibus, a new Mercedes Sprinter, stays heated throughout for anyone who wants to warm up or rest. Tours usually run 6 to 9 hours depending on the weather and the aurora. Arrival back in Tromsø varies with how far the chase went, generally between 1 and 3 am.
Tromso Fjords
The fjords, the mountains and the drive toward Finland are the usual directions. Choosing between coast and inland is what decides the night, because the climates are genuinely different. The west coast fjords are about an hour away and sit at around -5 to -10°C in the coldest part of winter. Inland, and especially in Finland and along the border, the Gulf Stream no longer warms anything, and temperatures below -20°C are normal. The group drives there regularly when the forecast calls for it. That is the reason the heated minibus stays available at all times, which few operators here provide.
