Northern Lights Chase with a Sami Guide, Campfire Meal and Photos
A proper chase rather than a fixed route, led by a local Sámi Norwegian guide who knows this ground. The destination is decided on the day from the latest weather, cloud cover and aurora forecasts. That can mean driving a long way. If conditions are better across the border, the group goes into Finland. The operator also has several private viewing spots reserved for its own guests. When the sky cooperates there, that is where the night is spent, away from the crowd of vehicles that gathers at the public pull-offs. At the stop there is a campfire, grilled sausages and warm drinks, hot chocolate or tea, while the waiting happens. Bring your passport, because of the Finland option. Dress properly for winter: thermal layers, hat, gloves, warm boots. The return can be late, so leave the following morning free.

Tromso
The evening starts at Kirkegata 2, where you meet the guide before heading out into the valleys and fjords around Tromsø. Local knowledge and the day's forecasts decide the direction, sometimes as far as the Finnish border. On the drive the guide talks about Sámi traditions and Arctic life, with time to watch the country change as the city lights fall away. At the chosen spot the group sets up a small camp, well away from crowds and light pollution. A bonfire is lit, with hot chocolate or herbal tea, traditional snacks and a warm meal made from local ingredients. The fire keeps everyone in one place while the sky is watched. The guide helps with camera settings and takes photographs through the night. At the end the group returns to Tromsø, with drop-off at your hotel.
