Private Northern Lights Chase around Fairbanks with Photos
A private aurora chase around Fairbanks, with photographs included. Pickup is at 10:30 pm from your hotel in downtown Fairbanks or from the Hyatt Place Fairbanks, 400 Merhar Ave. Pickup times can change. The operator is blunt about the odds, and it is worth repeating: no sighting is guaranteed. The aurora is weather and solar activity, both of which shift through the evening. A night that starts promising can close over, and one that starts badly can open up. Nobody controls either.

Fairbanks
Fairbanks is Alaska's second largest city, and it began as a trading post: E.T. Barnette set up on the south bank of the Chena River on 26 August 1901. People had lived in this area since at least the last ice age, but a permanent settlement only arrived with the 20th century. Gold turned Barnette's temporary stop into a town. Miners arrived in numbers, buildings went up around the post, and in November 1903 residents voted to incorporate the city. Barnette became its first mayor as thousands came for the Fairbanks Gold Rush. (Source: Wikipedia)
