Private Northern Lights Tour near Tromso in a VIP Mercedes
A private aurora tour for solo travellers, couples and families, with pickup and drop-off and an evening shaped around what you actually want from it. The vehicle is a VIP Mercedes and the group is only yours, so the guide can change the plan at 21:00 without consulting anyone else. Local guides pick the spots. There are several stops through the night, which gives the aurora different foregrounds rather than one fixed view. When the weather allows, a longer stop with a bonfire, a prepared meal and a hot drink. On milder nights there is the option of a dip in the Barents Sea. Bring a towel, and you earn a bravery diploma for it.

Tromso
Pickup is at your hotel, Airbnb or cruise ship in Tromsø, and the evening starts with a conversation about how to plan it and what you would like to include. Tromsø itself sits directly under the auroral oval, which is why it works so well as a base. Most of the night is spent outside the town. The guide's favourite spots are all by the sea, which in northern Norway never freezes, thanks to the Gulf Stream: the water stays warmer than the air for most of the winter, and a few people take that as an invitation to swim. When the coast is under cloud, the route turns inland toward the mountains. Tromsø's advantage is choice, with roads running in every direction. The group goes wherever is safest and most likely to work, sometimes 30 minutes out of town, sometimes as far as the Finnish border.
