Small Group 4x4 Van Journey in Search of the Northern Lights

The guides read the weather predictions before every departure and stay in contact with a wider network of guides through the evening, which is how a single van finds out that the cloud broke somewhere it cannot see. The vehicle is a 4x4, equipped for Arctic conditions, and that is what allows the group to reach quieter places instead of the pull-offs everyone else uses. Pickup is central in Tromsø, which saves time at the start of the night and gets the search under way earlier. No two nights run the same way. Once a decent sky is found, camp goes up for the evening. Usually that means a short drive out to the coastal islands around Tromsø; when it has to, it means a much longer drive into Finland.
