Tromso Northern Lights Hunt in Italian with a Photographer, Max 8 People
An aurora hunt guided in Italian, for a maximum of 8 people, built for travellers who would rather spend the night away from the coach crowds. A small group can stand somewhere quiet, which changes the evening: you get the silence of the Arctic at night instead of forty people talking behind you. The guide explains what causes the aurora, along with local culture and the history of the region, so the night has content and not only pictures. Professional photographs are included. The guiding language is Italian throughout, which is the reason to choose this one over the dozens of English language departures leaving Tromsø the same evening.

Tromso
Seeing the aurora properly means leaving Tromsø's light pollution behind and getting out into open country. The direction depends on the evening's weather, since cloud is what hides the lights, so the priority is finding clear sky. When it takes that, the group crosses into Finland. Worth knowing: the forecast for Tromsø itself is not a reason to cancel. The sky above the city says nothing about conditions where the hunt actually goes, which is the whole point of leaving town. If the weather worries you, contact the guide before cancelling.
Troms
Once the right area is found, the guide picks a spot away from other tours and artificial light. The waiting is part of it: the aurora can appear within minutes or take a couple of hours. To make that time pass there is a campfire, soup, biscuits and hot chocolate, and the guide's explanation of what is happening overhead. Winter temperatures here run anywhere from +5°C to -30°C, so thermal suits are provided for everyone. If you have a camera, the guide walks you through the settings. He also takes professional photographs for you.
Troms
Nature does not take bookings. Occasionally the sky stays covered or solar activity is weak. Even then, a 20 minute break in the cloud is enough for a real display, and local weather knowledge plus proper forecasting tools is what puts the group in the right place when it opens. Nights with no aurora at all are rare, but they happen, which is why nobody can guarantee it completely. The length of the evening depends on how long it takes to find good conditions. Sometimes 30 minutes out of Tromsø is enough; other times it becomes a real hunt across a much wider area to find clear sky.

- Per garantire un ambiente confortevole per tutti i partecipanti, durante l’intera durata del tour non è consentito fumare, nemmeno durante le pause all’esterno del veicolo. Anche una breve sigaretta all’aperto tende a impregnare giacche e guanti, e in uno spazio ristretto come un minivan questo può causare forte disagio agli altri ospiti.
