A search rather than a scheduled outing. The guides work from the Kp index and weather tracking tools to pick the best vantage points, and they share the data openly with the group before and during the night, along with the old stories about what the sky is doing. Departure times are not fixed. They are set each evening to match the hours when the aurora is forecast to be active, which is the correct way round and rare in a business that mostly leaves at 18:00 regardless. Nothing is guaranteed. The best available forecasting can pinpoint the solar activity, but the weather over Alaska remains its own problem, and the evening stays unpredictable. This is an expedition for people willing to join a search party whose entire purpose is one uncertain thing. Every reservation comes with multi-evening coverage under the flexible sliding ticket programme, though the reservation is used on a single evening.
