Active Volcano Hike and Northern Lights Night Tour from Reykjavík
Iceland is the only country where you can walk up to a live eruption in the afternoon and hunt the aurora the same night. That is the entire premise of this combination. The day starts in the late morning with the tour to the eruption site at Meradalir. The hike is 1.5 to 2 hours each way over uneven terrain, moderate going for anyone reasonably fit, and at the end of it thousands of cubic metres of magma are coming out of the volcano's core in front of you. Afterwards you are dropped back in the city with time for dinner and a change of clothes. The evening half starts from the Icelandic Met Office aurora forecast: the guides read it, then drive towards whichever area is most likely to be free of cloud, stopping at 2 or 3 locations to improve the odds. That part usually runs about 4 hours.

Capital Region
Northern lights hunting, out in the Icelandic countryside. Where the group goes changes from day to day, because the tour heads in whichever direction gives the best chance of a sighting.
