On clear nights the group stays at the lodge and watches from the fire, through the windows or outside. When cloud moves in, the van goes chasing clear sky instead. Most Fairbanks operators do one or the other; parking at a single spot means a cloudy forecast costs you the whole night. Groups are capped at 10, so nobody is competing for a view or for the guide's attention.
