Golden Circle by Day and Northern Lights by Night from Reykjavík
Two tours in one day, with a gap in the middle for a shower and dinner. Daylight goes to the Golden Circle: Thingvellir National Park, where the geology is legible from the footpath; Gullfoss waterfall; and the bubbling ground of the Geysir area. Then back to town, with time to change clothes and eat at your own pace. After dark the second half starts. The guides drive away from the city lights to whichever viewing spot the night favours, working from live updates on aurora activity rather than a fixed plan. Sightings are still subject to the weather, as they always are, and the guides say so rather than promising otherwise.

Thingvellir National Park
Þingvellir National Park is a UNESCO site for both its geology and its history. Alþingi, the oldest parliament in the world, was founded here, and this is one of the few places where the Mid-Atlantic ridge can be seen above ground.
Site de Geysir
The Geysir geothermal area has several spouting springs, Strokkur among them, the most active geyser in Iceland.
Gullfoss Falls
Gullfoss earns its reputation. The three-step waterfall belongs to the glacial river Hvítá and drops into a canyon 62 metres (203 ft) deep.
