Northern Lights Adventure by Snowmobile from Alta

The aurora has produced a long line of stories in the north: heroes lighting up the sky, fire foxes sweeping sparks off the snow with their tails, warnings that something bad was coming. Alta's dry, stable climate gives it some of the best conditions anywhere for actually seeing the thing behind the stories. This trip puts you on a snowmobile for it. The route follows the old postal road up to the edge of Finnmarksvidda, to a mountain range called Beskardes. That far from any town, the only light is what the sky provides. On a good night the aurora moves overhead; on a quiet one you still get an Arctic sky with nothing in the way of it.
