Northern Lights Tour Around the Altafjord with Alta Adventure
A small group aurora hunt around the Altafjord, run by an operator who has been doing guided tours here since 2007. They report an 80 to 90% success rate on a normal season. No two departures are the same. The guides go wherever the conditions point, which some nights means driving a long way and other nights means stopping close to town. That distance decides the format of the evening: with time in hand they set up a camp with a fire, and when the driving eats the clock, hot chocolate and snacks are served at one of the shorter stops. The talking covers Norwegian daily life, local history going back to the Stone Age, Sami culture and reindeer herding, the Second World War, and how Alta works today. The group is normally back a little after midnight.

If you are driving your own or a rental car, meet at the office at 8:00 pm. The address is Komsaveien 2, 9511 Alta, with free and secure parking for your car. Please wait if pickups elsewhere are running late.
Alta
The tour leaves from Alta Center, with the chance to pass the Northern Lights Cathedral and take in the view over the Alta Fjord. On the way through town the guide explains what causes the aurora and what the conditions are that day, which is what decides where the night ends up.

- Choose Alta Havn (Alta Harbour) as your pick up place if you are coming to Alta by cruise ship. Our guide will be there looking for you at the parking place with a black minibus.
