Reykjavik

The boat leaves Reykjavík's Old Harbour and sails out for the evening to look for the northern lights. The guide covers the science of what causes them, the stories and legends that came before the science, and whatever the group wants to ask. The backup plan is the part worth reading twice. When the forecast rules out the sailing, the evening moves to the Whales of Iceland Exhibition: a guided tour, a northern lights video, a welcome drink and a question and answer session with your guide. That version always starts at 21:00. Nobody guarantees the aurora. If the lights do not appear on your sailing, you are given a ticket to try again. One catch to note: boarding the boat uses the ticket up, so once you have sailed it cannot be swapped for entry to the exhibition. The tour is sold as non refundable, on the reasoning that one of the two evenings happens whatever the weather does.
