The superjeeps are Land Rover Defenders and 6-door Ford Excursions, modified onto 40 or 46 inch wheels, and that is what lets them leave the tarmac on a night when the clear sky sits somewhere a coach cannot follow. Inside there are leather seats, air conditioning, WiFi, GPS, a first-aid kit, trackwell and the rest of the safety equipment, plus an extra fold-down step that makes getting in less of an undertaking. The driving guides work these roads and the wilderness beyond them all year round and know how a jeep this size behaves on both. The tour runs 4 hours with a maximum of 6 passengers per superjeep. Sightings are possible from autumn to spring, given clear skies and a little luck.
