Small Group Northern Lights Tour from Reykjavík, Max 19, with Photos
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
ReykjavikNineteen guests at most, in a minibus, with guides who specialise in aurora forecasting and read live data every evening before deciding where to go. The point of that is avoiding the places every coach in the city has already parked. Icelandic wool blankets come out at the stop, along with hot chocolate and traditional pastries. The guides are professional photographers too, and the pictures of you under the lights arrive by email within 8 days. The hours in between get filled with Icelandic folklore and whatever the stars are doing. And if the aurora never shows, you are invited back at no charge.

Reykjavik
The hunt starts with the aurora forecast and a decision about where to drive. Reaching a good spot can take up to an hour, and then the waiting begins. That is when the hot chocolate and Icelandic pastries come out, and there are wool blankets on board for standing outside in. The group may move on to a second spot. Guides talk to other locals out doing the same thing, because plenty of people are out looking every night, and that shared information raises the odds. If no lights appear during the tour, you can try again free, subject to availability. The minibus keeps the group to 19 people at most, which is what makes it possible to use the good spots instead of the crowded ones.
