South Iceland Highlights and Northern Lights Combo Full Day Tour
Two tours in one day, sold together at a discount on both, which is the only sensible way to fit the south coast and an aurora hunt into the same 24 hours. The daylight half covers the highlights of the south: Seljalandsfoss, the waterfall you can walk behind, and Reynisfjara, the black sand beach with the basalt cliffs. Both are the best examples of their kind in the country, and the drive between them is most of the point. Back in the city there are a few hours to yourself. Then the evening guides take over and go looking for the aurora, well beyond the reach of the streetlights.

Skogafoss
A huge waterfall with two ways to see it: from the ground, or from the shelf above, reached by a winding series of steps. Both angles are worth the climb. 2 hour drive from Reykjavík to Skógafoss. 30 minutes on location.
Solheimajokull Glacier
A brisk walk along a glacial lagoon leads towards Sólheimajökull, an ancient glacier sitting in a vast, bare valley. It is also where climate change stops being an abstraction: the ice retreats faster here every year, and the guides can point to where it used to reach. You can touch the glacier ice. 30 minutes drive to reach the location. 45 minutes on location.
Reynisfjara Beach
The most famous black sand beach in Iceland, with the Reynisdrangar sea stacks standing offshore and a cliff of geometric basalt columns and a cave behind the sand. Listen to your guide about the creeper waves. They arrive without warning and they are the reason people die on this beach. Stay dry and stay back. 35 minutes drive. 30 minutes on location.
Vik
A lunch stop in the village of Vík. Lunch is not included. 15 minutes drive. 60 minutes on location.
Seljalandsfoss waterfall
Probably the most photographed waterfall in Iceland. A winding path runs behind the falling water, so you can see it from every side, including from inside the noise. 50 minutes drive to location. 30 minutes on location. 110 minutes drive back to Reykjavík.
Capital Region
After the South Iceland tour there are a few hours in Reykjavík to rest and eat. Then the second half of the day starts with the evening northern lights tour, which goes well beyond the city's light pollution looking for clear sky and the aurora underneath it.
