Reykjavik

Two sailings from the same harbour, one in daylight and one long after it. The whale watching runs 3 hours, leaving the Old Harbour in Reykjavík at 09:00 or 13:00. In winter, Faxaflói bay usually means minke whales, dolphins, porpoises and humpbacks, with the low winter light doing something to the horizon that summer never manages. The hours in between belong to you. The Old Harbour and Grandi sit a short walk apart, both full of small shops and warm places to eat. The evening cruise lasts 2 hours and departs at 21:00 or 22:00 depending on the season, heading into the southern part of Faxaflói bay, further out from the city than the morning boat goes. Open water, no streetlights, and a sky with nothing between you and it.
