Kiruna Aurora Chase with a Street Food Dinner in a Tipi

The evening starts with dinner by the fire inside the Stejk Street Food tipi, chosen from their local menu, which is a considerably better start than a service station sandwich. From there the group travels in minivans rather than coaches, which is what gets them to wilderness spots the big buses cannot reach. The guides are Rostam, Hannah and Jonas, and they know the physics of the aurora properly. Each brings something else as well, in photography, wildlife or local history, so the tour depends on who is out that night. At the stop there is a campfire with warm lingonberry juice and Swedish snacks, the local version of fika taken outdoors in the dark. No fixed route. The vans go in whatever direction the sky is clearest, which is the only strategy that reliably works.
