Kiruna Northern Lights Chase Through the Snowy Forests

A four hour chase through the forests around Kiruna, looking for the aurora. The group meets on Torggatan in Kiruna at the appointed time and sets off by minibus into the snow covered country outside town. Where exactly depends on the day's weather: the priority is finding a sky the aurora can be seen through, not following a set route. The display can run green, pink, blue and sometimes purple, depending on how active the night is. The guide explains what causes it, and gives practical advice on photographing it, which is harder than it looks with a moving light and a long exposure. The tour ends back at the starting point, four hours after it began. That fixed length is worth weighing: it is short enough to fit a trip with an early start the next day, and short enough that a slow night may end before the sky wakes up.
