The hunt runs with a professional photographer in a spacious van, which matters because the driving is real: at least 50 km one way, usually around 120 km, to reach the darkest spot available. A Finnish sandwich and berry tea handle the hunger. There is no barbecue, because the priority is finding clear sky rather than standing over sausages.
