Northern Lights Evening at a Century Old Lakeside Cottage near Rovaniemi
Twenty minutes from Rovaniemi, on a private lakeside plot, there is a log cottage a hundred years old. That is where this tour spends the night. The location is genuinely good for the aurora, and the cottage means the waiting happens somewhere warm with a history rather than in a car park. Pickup is from your accommodation, and warm winter clothing is handed out before the drive. Twenty minutes later the group arrives at the private site, where a campfire gets built. Sausages, marshmallows, cinnamon buns and warm blueberry juice made from Finnish forest berries go on and around it. Inside, the fireplace of the 100 year old log house does the rest. The building has its own atmosphere and the guides explain both the science behind the aurora and the traditions the local people built around it. When the evening ends, the drive back to your accommodation.
