The guides are Sámi photographers born in this area, who have been out in these forests since childhood. That is the useful kind of local knowledge: they pick the night's spot from experience of how weather moves here, not from a map. There is always some chance of the aurora. Even on a poor night, there are places within reach where the sky is better, provided you know where they are.
