The private version of the chase, with photography included and only your own group in the vehicle. That matters most at the stop. A private booking means the guide can spend the whole wait on your camera settings and your shots, rather than dividing the attention among strangers, and the group decides together when to move on. The guides study the weather predictions before every departure and stay in touch with a network of other guides, which is how a single vehicle keeps track of a sky far wider than it can see. The van is equipped for Arctic conditions and reaches quieter places away from the usual pull-offs. Pickup is central in Tromsø, so the search starts earlier in the evening. Once a good sky is found, camp goes up for the night. Usually that means a short drive to the coastal islands around Tromsø; sometimes it means going as far as Finland.
