Rovaniemi Aurora Pass: 3 or 5 Days of Unlimited Northern Lights Chasing
Everyone tells you that seeing the northern lights is extraordinary. Nobody mentions that it often takes more than one attempt, and that even then the night can go wrong. This is the answer to that: a pass valid for 3 or 5 days, with a check in each day and a seat on that evening's hunt. More attempts, more sky, better odds. The destination changes daily, so the pass also buys variety. Depending on where the aurora is, the group ends up on hills, in woodland, out on open ground, or beside the frozen lake under a sky full of stars. There are cookies.

Nordic Adventures
Pick the 3 or 5 day pass and check in with the team every day of it. Buying a pass costs less than booking a separate tour each night until the sky finally opens, and it takes you somewhere different each time. Different ground, different photographs of Finnish nature. Depending on where the lights are, that means hills, forests and meadows, or a starry night by the lake. The one thing you must do is check in each day, and read the additional information carefully. Checking in is what reserves your seat in the mini-bus.
Rovaniemi
Some people swear by January to March. Plenty of others prefer autumn. The season in Rovaniemi runs from October to April, and the argument is never settled. The lights appear when charged particles from the Sun meet oxygen and nitrogen atoms in the Earth's atmosphere. Green is the usual result, then blue and purple, and occasionally crimson red with coral and pink at the edges. The guide helps set up your camera and passes on the tricks for photographing the aurora. Worth doing after you have watched it for a while rather than before.
