Two Day Snæfellsnes Tour with Lava Caving and Northern Lights
Two days in West Iceland, one night outside Reykjavik, and a lava tube 8,000 years old somewhere in the middle. Day one works around the Snæfellsnes Peninsula: Kirkjufell, the most photographed mountain in the country; the fishing village of Arnarstapi; the black church at Búðir; geothermal ground and seal colonies along the way. Jules Verne sent his travellers to the centre of the earth down a volcano on this peninsula, and Walter Mitty's film crew came here for the roads. The night is spent in Stykkishólmur or Borgarnes, depending on hotel availability. Day two goes underground, into Víðgelmir, one of the largest lava caves in Iceland, and then on to the Hraunfossar and Barnafossar waterfalls, with other stops on the road back. The guide collects you in Reykjavik at the start and the aurora is a possibility on either night, weather permitting.
