Yellowknife

Five days, four nights, and at least one daytime activity on each of them. The aurora half stays flexible: the schedule bends to the sky, which is the only way a multi night package improves the odds instead of just filling a calendar. Three meals are included. Book at least 45 days before arrival day and the winter clothing rental is free: parka, snow pants, winter boots and mitts, four pieces in total. Hotel booking can be arranged as an option if you would rather have the whole trip handled in one place. Bundled this way the package costs considerably less than booking each activity separately, and there is nothing left to organise once you land.

What's included

  • Early Bird Cloth Rental: Free 4 piece winter clothing rental if bundle is booked at least 45 days prior to Arrival Day

  1. Yellowknife

The guide meets guests at the airport and drives them to the hotel for check in.

  2. Yellowknife

Guests meet the guide at the hotel for a night that combines aurora chasing with an aurora lodge. The combination is the useful part. On a cold clear night the lodge is the better place to be, with beverages and snacks to choose from and a warm room to thaw out in between sky checks. On a cloudy night the group spends more of the time chasing instead, which is where the extra chance comes from. Photography service is included, with up to 3 digital original photos per guest. Standard tour time runs from 10:00pm to 02:00am, though the start can move for unusual aurora or cloud activity. Guests may move this activity to another night if the weather is bad.

  3. Yellowknife

Guests meet the guide at the hotel for an ice fishing tour, catching fish by jig fishing, which takes some skill and a good deal of luck. Lunch is a fresh fish fry, cooked and served out on the ice and eaten inside well heated cabins. If conditions allow after lunch, the group also tries traditional net fishing.

  4. Yellowknife

Another night meeting the guide at the hotel for the combined aurora chasing and aurora lodge tour. The balance shifts with the weather. Clear and cold, and the lodge earns its keep: snacks, hot drinks, somewhere warm to recover between sky checks. Cloudy, and the night tilts towards chasing, to keep the chance of a sighting as high as possible. Photography service is included again, up to 3 digital original photos per guest. Standard tour time is 10:00pm to 02:00am, subject to change for extraordinary aurora or cloud activity. This night can also be swapped to another date if the weather turns.

  5. Yellowknife

Guests meet the guide in the hotel lobby for a snowmobile adventure. Everyone gets a detailed orientation and is fitted with a heated helmet. Each guest rides their own snowmobile. Standard riding distance is around 15 km, about 10 miles, and riding time runs 50 to 60 minutes. Three tours per day: 10:00, 12:00, 14:30. Ask about the upgrade to a longer tour that visits the Ice Cave.

  6. Yellowknife

Guests meet the guide in the hotel lobby for a night of aurora viewing on the ice. The watching happens from cosy wood cabins set on the frozen lake. Snacks, hot beverages and photography services with digital originals are all included. Ask about the upgrade to a private cabin. Standard start time is 21:30. Guests can move this tour to another night if the weather is poor.

  7. Yellowknife Visitor Centre and Information

After the snowmobile tour comes a mini city tour of the Yellowknife landmarks: the Ice Road, the Bristol Monument and the Pilot Monument, with a last stop at the Visitor Center for a small gift, a post card, a survived in the north certificate and a stylish pin. In March a short visit to the Ice Castle is included as well, with the $10 gate cost paid by guests.

  8. Yellowknife

A driver collects guests from their hotels for a traditional dog sledding tour. Total time is 2 hours or more, transport included.

  9. Yellowknife

An aurora activity from another night can be moved to this one.

  10. Driver will transfer guests to the airport 2h-2

The driver transfers guests to the airport 2 to 2.5 hours before departure time.
