Chena Hot Springs Guided Night with Ice Museum and Aurora Photos
A guided version of the Chena Hot Springs night, with the guides handling the logistics of the resort so you use all of it rather than half. If the aurora appears, they take you to the best vantage points and photograph it, then share the images with you afterwards. The practical value of a guide here is real: the resort has an ice museum with timed admission, a rock lake with an age limit, lockers that need coins, and a restaurant, all spread across a site in the dark at minus twenty.
What's included
- 50 cents for your locker
- Bottled water
- Entry to the Hot Springs swimming area
- Admission to the Ice Museum

Chena Hot Springs Resort
Guides collect you from your hotel or B&B and bring you back at the end of the night. The drive to Chena Hot Springs Resort takes about 1.5 hours. At the resort: the hot springs, the sky above them, and the aurora if it comes. The Ice Museum is included, with its sculptures and plenty to photograph. The on-site restaurant serves Alaskan food, though the meal is not included in the price. The gift shop has keepsakes and smaller snacks.
Chena Hot Springs Resort
On arrival you are given your tickets for the Ice Museum, carved entirely from ice by well known sculptors. The guided visit lasts about 45 minutes and admission is part of the tour package. The Ice Bar inside serves the appletini it is known for. Buy your drinks at the activity centre before heading over to the museum, and bring ID if you intend to.
Chena Hot Springs Resort
After the Ice Museum comes the hot springs swimming area: the natural springs themselves, indoor and outdoor hot tubs, and an indoor pool. Bring a towel, swimwear and shower shoes for the locker room. If you forget any of it, the resort rents and sells all three. One practical detail: the lockers in the changing area take 2 quarters. The guide will provide them if you do not have change.
Fairbanks
Once the Ice Museum, the hot springs and dinner are done, the rest of the night goes on finding the best vantage points for the aurora.
